Steven Knight Opens Up About Oasis Reunion Documentary Don’t Look Back In Anger

The story behind Oasis’ long-awaited reunion is set to reach homes in Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger, and according to creator and screenwriter Steven Knight, it is far more than a music documentary. Speaking to Emma B on Virgin Radio UK, the Peaky Blinders mastermind described the film as an emotional story of forgiveness, family and redemption centred on Liam and Noel Gallagher’s remarkable reconciliation.

Knight revealed that the project was built around unprecedented access to the Gallagher brothers during the Oasis Live ’25 reunion tour, including never-before-seen rehearsal footage and the first joint interviews given by Liam and Noel in more than two decades. Rather than producing a conventional behind-the-scenes rock documentary, Knight wanted to capture the reunion as it unfolded naturally. To achieve that, the production installed ten remote cameras inside the rehearsal space, allowing pivotal moments to be filmed without disrupting the atmosphere.

One of the film’s most moving scenes comes from the very first rehearsal sessions. Knight recalled watching the brothers reconnect not through words, but through music. As songs such as “Slide Away” returned to life in the room, the relationship between Liam and Noel gradually began to rebuild itself, offering a glimpse into a bond that had appeared broken for more than a decade.

Beyond the Gallaghers’ personal story, Don’t Look Back In Anger explores the powerful connection between Oasis and their audience. Knight was struck by the emotional response of fans across generations, from parents who grew up with the band in the 1990s to younger listeners who discovered the music years later. The documentary captures stadiums filled with families sharing songs that have become part of their lives, underlining just how deeply Oasis remains woven into British culture.

For Knight, the reunion became a story of hope as much as music. What began as one of rock’s most infamous sibling feuds evolves into a tale of reconciliation, proving that some relationships can still be repaired. As Oasis continue their triumphant comeback, Don’t Look Back In Anger promises to document not just the return of a band, but the rebuilding of a family.
